Already over 30 youth groups from around Sydney are joining with ANGLICARE and Fervr to commit FRIDAY 8th June to LEARNING, THINKING and PRAYING about children who are growing up in poverty! (Note also that Light Up the Street is an ‘in-house’ event which you are free to run on any other night if that would better suit your group.)

In 2011 we participated in the Big Exo Day festival, where we had the opportunity to launch our new campaign, “ShareTheLove”. The campaign is based on the verse 1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us”. We are encouraging young people to live a life that reflects God’s love. ANGLICARE reaches out in love to people in need, just like Jesus reached out to us. So we encouraged young people to think of ONE practical thing they could do to share God’s love with someone else and do it!

We ran a photo booth and had roaming volunteers talking to teenagers about how they could practically share God’s love with other people. It was an awesome opportunity to spend time in a positive and fun environment and it was so exciting to see young people so willing to participate and hear about what we had to say.

Light Up the Street is our major youth initiative where youth groups have the opportunity to dedicate one Friday night to learning, thinking and praying about the disadvantaged people in our community. In 2011 we focussed on Migrants and Refugees and their experiences in coming to Australia and the issues they deal with once they are here. It was great to see 36 youth groups participate and be praying for young refugees in our community.

In 2010 we focussed on the experiences of young people who are homeless and the issues they face day to day

It was a great opportunity to learn about the real issues that these people are facing and the important work that ANGLICARE is involved in.
